The pipe loop is buried at a depth of around 30 feet, and is filled with an antifreeze solution. The loop connects to the unit inside the home, which uses it as both a source and an escape route for thermal energy. While in cooling mode, the unit uses refrigerant to absorb heat from the home’s air and vents it into the liquid in the pipe loop. In heating mode, the system will siphon thermal energy from the heat transfer fluid in the loop and then release it into the home.
